Ok, I got my period a couple of years ago. I have used tampons before, but I was just wondering: Would it be safe to use a different brand of tampons that has the same absorbancy but is larger in size?

Technically it is not safe to use tampons full-stop as they prevent the vagina from cleaning itself, dry out the mucosa causing splitting, give bacteria a place to multiply, leave fibres within your vagina, commercial tampons also increase TSS risk further than tampons alone further the risk, and commercial tampons contain chemicals that can interfere with vaginal pH leading to infections as well as this the chemicals can stay within your body contributing to more general health problems.

If you do use tampons, rather than safer options such as sanitary pads or menstrual cups, then try to go for organic, sponge or homemade tampons instead of commercial to limit your risk – tampons such as Natracare or Jade & Pearl. Be aware that the higher the absorbency the higher the risk of infection and TSS, be sure to change more often, in the end it is your choice whether to use tampons and whether to use higher absorbency tampons, just make sure it is an educated choice.

Yes its ok to use different brands, and sizes, but i suggest only using tampons when you are going out only to prevent embarrassment, because accidents happen, and even with tampons they will tend to leak if your flow is heavy, that's where the larger sizes come in. I also find it comforting to use a small pad or panty liner at the same time, you can never be too safe. BUT Remember not to wear overnight, and when at home use a pad instead, you can control things a little better ok... READ the warnings on tampons STAY SAFE

It doesn't matter if the tampon says heavy. Even though OB is way smaller it should absorb the same amount liquid wise as the larger Tampax. (When comparing light, medium flow or heavy)

yes, but if your period isn't heavy, then it'll hurt when you change it. I use the larger tampons at the beginning of my period, and the regular size at the end

You can always change brands. You just change the absorbancy or size based on how heavy your period is.

Yes, but o.b. is the best. Find one that fits your cycle any brand will do but, not near as good as name brands. Also try pads every once in a while. Be safe and God Bless

I wouldn't know, for I have never ever used a tampon before in my life in grave fear of a little thing called Toxic Shock Syndrome TSS.

That's perfectly fine! Honestly, until you get used to it, for the first day or so use the smaller one (if it's available) and then work up. This will keep you from unneccessary discomfort.
