This raises an interesting thought. There are many tragedies that have recently happened or will happen soon where many more than 3,000 people will die. The Tsunamis and the Earthquakes, for ex., that take double, triple that amount of lives. To Those people, THAT is the end of the world. To the people affected by Hurricane Rita, it was just as much a tragedy as Katrina. To the families of lost sons in Iraq every day, that is their 9/11. There are still people in Afghanistan cut off by an earthquake not getting help and dying. There are orphaned children, thousands every DAY, in Africa because of war and AIDS. They are having Their 9/11. In Spain, they have 5/11 to mark a terrorist bombing there in MAY, 2001. If you mean should we have another "bank" holiday or another paid day off work, maybe we should. Trade it for a less meaningful one, like Columbus Day. But use it to meditate on ALL the tragedies of ALL people, not just to memoralize what we in This country suffer. We are NOT the whole World, you know. We've been Programmed from pre-school and kindergarten to think that ......Our Country, Our people, Our government.....are the Be-All and End-All of everything. We are NOT the most Important People or Government in the World ALL of the time!

We should have a National holiday for Sept 11, 2001 but world wide is a possibility since we have troops all over the world, and we all became hero's in our own way when this tragic event happened and I feel that these people are forgotten all the time except on this date every year.

I'm mixed on the answer. On one side I'd say yes to remember those who lost their live on this day. Even to the point where the only people allowed to work are emergency workers. Let's not treat September 11th like Veterans' day or Independence day(in terms of sales).
On the other side I'd say no. If we look at all other national holidays, they all exist because what happened in their respective past changed our history. We can't have a day off for a day that instilled fear into our hearts.
If 9/11 was a holiday they might as well make kennedy's assissination or the Pearl Harbor attack a holiday, but thats just my opinions...
as far as worldwide. definately no; if it didnt happen there then they got no business in it...

National? Very much so. The holiday should commemorate the heroes of not only September 11, but everyday. Much like Martin Luther King Day recognizes community service
Let's honor those heroes and the country as being united as one that we can and should make this country stronger against terrorism and at the same time we can recognize the diversity of the world we live in.

I believe that "worldwide" might be a bit much... its more of an american thing, all the countries have had their own deal with terrorisms and will have more as time goes on. I see no problem with a nation wide holiday, but it might cheapen it for some people. I just don't think the day would be remembered for the people who died in the towers and the pentagon (if people did die in the pentagon, i really have no idea), but more for the day off school and bbq's that followed.

Yes for sure. I understand we don't celebrate the day Pearl Harbor was attacked but this day was different. On 9/11 every day people stepped into the role of heros. People died for others they never knew. Its such a counterdiction as Americans who say we don't forget but we don't show any way of remembering. It doesn't have to be world wide but I think we need to show some way that we appreciate what those brave souls did and what better way than to give them the biggest honor you could receive, a day of their own.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! We don't have a national/worldwide holiday for the Oklahoma City bombing victims!! Nor do we have one specifically for the Pearl Harbor victims...the holidays for those is called Memorial Day and Veterans Day. People who want that just want an extra day off of work and school.

We already do, Patriot Day. That's enough. December 7 isn't a national holiday, so I don't think September 11 is any more important than December 7.

I think we should have a national holiday for it, but i dont think we should get out of school or anything because people will just see it like any other holiday...a day to legally skip school and take a day-vaca from work.....therefore we already have it, Patriot Day. however i think it should be celebrated more with peace, and song, and candels and most importantly, memories and nationalism from the depths of our hearts.
