Bush's idea of a "War on Terrorism" is the most moronic thing in the world. Terrorism isn't a country that we can conquer or a dictator that we can overthrow, terrorism is an idea, it is a way for one person that feels that he/she is being put into a compromised position or feels that they are being forced to do something; it is the way that thye get even or try to change the person they feel is trying to change them.

Let me remind you of some people that were called Terroist in their day:
Washington
Jefferson
Madison
Franklin

These men were called terrorist by the british in the American revolution because we were fighting the british because they were forcing us to do things we didn't want to do.

Let me also give a few examples of a present day terroist group:
IRA (ireland revolutionary army)
PLA (palestine liberation army)
Hamas

You get my point by now I hope, one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. We just label these people as terrorist because we are on the other side.

To truely understand today's terrorist you have to realize what there idealology and cause's are. The IRA wants a unified Ireland, the PLA want's palestine back the way it was before Isreal, and Al-Qaida want's the destruction of the western world because they feel we are forcing our cultures (internet, TV, women voting, porn, video games, fast food, etc, etc....... Now everyone thank Mc'y D's and Coke all at once)

As long as there is a global community that want's to expand the borders of trade there will be some sort of terrorism. It's like one of the other people said it's like the war on drugs there will always be a drugs (terrorists) so there will always be a war on drugs (terror).

So Georgy boy what is the real way of stopping the terrorist of today, close the borders, stop international trade, stop international relations. But we can't do that because the world is to dependant on oil.

Also anyone that says the war on terror has anything to do with the war in iraq is either uneducated or never watches the news. There has been numerous burden's of proof to state that Hussein never supported Al Quada (actually some that considered al-quada a threat to his regime), they never harbored, financed, or supported terroist in anyway. And if you ask what about the WMD's, I retort with where are they if they had them don't ya think we would have found them by now. If we were so worried about Iraq supporting terrorist then how come we haven't iinvaded Sudan, a known terrorist supporting country which has harbored Osama Bin Lauden multiple times (if you haven't figured it out Sudan doesn't have any oil and didn't try to kill Bush's daddy).

The war on terrorism is a joke. And I hope when a DEMOCRAT get's elected in the next presidential election he puts an end to this BS and starts by protecting us from the inside instead of going out picking fights with countries that did nothing to us.

I think this is one of the hardest situations to define. The war on terror is not a war as we have known it. However, the people that disagree with it, are the same people that complain that Bush didn't act in time during 9/11. The only way to prevent a 9/11 from happening is destroying these terror cells and showing that no matter what they try we will always as a nation support and fight for our rights and privilages that others around the world don't have. I am a democrat but I feel as a college student, you have to stand behind the President on what he has done. He has taken out a dictator that was probably the most evil man in the world.

First, you don't declare war on a tactic.

Second, there will always be folks that want to terrorize, so a war based on prosecuting terror will be difficult to tell when it's over. The advertising should be re-worded to something like "War on Al-Qaeda" or something like that.

Third, attempting to bring order to the Middle East while we continue to look at their natural resources as an entitlement will only continue to breed ill will (it's that whole "national interest" sort of thing).

Now, as a practical matter, the military (and other) actions that have been taken in response to 9/11 were the only reasonable card left to play on this problem and damage has been done to those that would damage us. I'd have been hard pressed to see someone other than Bush be able to step up and take matters to the bad guys doorsteps.

Lots of factors here. Not simple. Many more to discuss. Anyone that tries to sound bite a position is a poser.

I think the war on terrorism is a bunch of bull. It's been 5 years and they still ain't done? I know I sound selfish or whatever but it doesn't make sense. Did you see Fahrenheit 9/11? Bush is a traitor and a cheater. He wasn't even supposed to win the election. We would have been better off with Bill Clinton as the president. Think about it... No s**t like this ever happened when Clinton was in office, But soon as George W. Bush's monkey a** gets into the office in '01', BOOM, people die. It's a shame. But, hey, if we're gonna win this war, tell them to hurry up.

I back President Bush 100% and the war on terrorism - hunting Bin Laden. Bush lost alot of the support he had shortly after 9/11 by invading Iraq and capturing Hussein. Not only did Bush lost his support, but the U.S. lost much respect in the Arabic countries.

All I can say is that people criticize about this war but what are we supposed to do? Sit back and let 9/11 happen again? I think we need to get rid of the big guys before we can run out. I hate that our innocent men have to die, but most are there because they believe in what we are doing and they believe in our country. My question, what would a democrat leader have done if they had been pres. during 9/11?

I feel that's the war on terrorism has taken a detour and have shifted the attention away from Bin Laden and the Taliban. He keeps making videos mocking US. I think its time for a retaliation

I feel that this war has nothing to do with terrorism; I feel that this war is about natural resources, and who controls them. We always have a war when we have a W. Bush in office-our economy is also compromised as well!

well the war on terrorism is a complicated matter. i think we acted rashly due to the hurt that 9/11 caused and we went out looking for a fight. on the other hand we have to stop these terrorists before they can attack us again. like i said its complicated. now the war in iraq was a total waste of time and tax money. what did it really accomplish besides getting us into another vietnam.

The War on Terror will have no end.
The more "civilized" countries will eventually have to take down all militant Islamic countries and police them. There's no end to it. We will eventually take down Iran and Syria. In the distant future, we'll have to police areas of Africa as well. There's no end in sight. Unless... We decide to mind our own business again and allow the militants to oppress the populace in the areas we decide to mind our own business in.
