The connection appears under available networks, but when I click properties, there is no WPA option under the association tab. On other computers I have seen a drop down menu allowing for a selection between WEP and WPA, but there is only a checkbox for "Data encryption (WEP enabled)" and "Network Authentication (Shared mode)." I can connect onto the WPA-PSK secured network on my other computer so I know it's not a problem at the host computer's side.
My network card is Broadcom 54g Maxperformance 802.11g.
I'm running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 1. I need WPA, it is not possible for me to switch to WEP.

How would I update this driver? I went to the broadcom website but it didn't seem to have any updates. If someone finds an update, please send a link.

Windows XP SP1 does not support WPA encryption, there is a patch to add WPA support to SP1 but I don't know what it is called (the update number) or where you would find it on Microsoft. I do know that if you install SP2, you will have WPA support. It's not the driver, it's not the hardware, it's the simple fact that the version of the OS does not support it. I hope you have an active internet connection to use, use Windows Update to get SP2 or download it from a third part site, there are plenty of them, there have been since it was released going on two years ago. I'm curious as to why you don't have SP2 already. Well, that's your solution, like it or not.

Go to the manufacturer's website (not Broadcom's website) to get an updated driver. If you can't find the manufacturer of the card through Windows, look at the physical card and see if the manufacturer is listed on the card. Search model numbers and part numbers if necessary.

SP2 will do the trick. Unless your card is way too old, it's just an OS thing.
