Oh hell yeah...The Ramones with the masters of punk...if it wasn't for them, there would be no Damned...my bad!!!

Not my favorite but I have to agree with the attitude and not selling out part.
Your question is about bands that didn't sell out so that leaves out The Ramones and The Clash even though they were great bands too.
You should be looking for more obscure bands
Check out Cockney Rejects if your looking for a great punk band.
My personal favorite will always be The Sex Pistols.

I can't say they were the greatest punk band ever. I can't say that all. They may be your favorite band, thats cool.
I like the Clash a lot better. How about the Cramps? Of course the definition of punk is shared differently by others as well.
Now the Pistols were great, but they were also run by that greedy Malcolm McDowell who was a marketeer. But their music and what they stood for rose above it!
I miss punk music and I hate this pseudo alternative trash out there today.
Eleventh Dream Day is coming out with a new album. They were (are) a rock/punky band from Chicago. They came out later than the Punk bands. Great band. I always like Naked Raygun from Chicago as well. If you are from Britain you may not know these guys, check em out.
Meanwhile I'll listed to The Damned in my car tomorrow, good idea!

my fav. bands are senses fail, silverstein, aiden, my chemical romance, fall out boy, hawthorne heights, panic!at the disco, 30 seconds to mars, ect. im in love with that type of music
