no. bad way to see if he likes you. it depends on how close this friend is. if he is really close, it might ruin or strenghten your friendship. if it turns out that they like you, well then kudos to you. if they end up becoming distant and it starts to get awkward then that sucks. flirt with him a little, see how he reacts about you in different situations. i've known from past experiences and trust me it did and didnt work. it all depends if you're willing to take a chance.
