I feel this way because just about everyone in my high school didn't even show any way of acknowledging what happened five years ago. There was only a moment of silence. What does that mean? Does that many people don't feel they have the time to grieve? Are they hiding it? Denying it? Do we need another event like 9/11 to make us realize that people are DYING and thousands are suffering EVERY DAY because of something so many don't even want to grieve for ONE day?

No one is going to forget that day whether or not they publicly display any emotion. Some people just feel that it's time to move on.....not forget, but move on.

When I initially read your question header, I had intended on answering along the lines of 'rose-colored glasses', denial, distance from the event (by time, not having it affect somebody personally, etc.), and/or regression into pre-9/11 thinking, "Terrorism never happens here in the U.S."

Seeing that you are speaking of your high school, which just started, therefore the oldest students there (save for those who failed a year), are 17. This means that the oldest kids there were 12 when this happened. Most kids in your school have been more concerned about their hormones in the past five years. I'm not trying to slam teenagers as a whole, but it's a fact that at around age 12 you're leaving the temporary phase between age 3-5 and 5-10 where you realize you aren't the center of the known universe.

Don't be disappointed in your classmates, be disappointed in their parents for not reminding them of the ramifications of this date, and even moreso the school for not having some sort of discussion about 9/11 and what's happened since then. The wars, the restrictions on flying and travel in general, how Iran, Israel, and Palestine seem to have been pulled into the picture, etc.

I think that some are not really understanding the impact of that day. I also think that some are holding things in.

If you are in high school now, more than likely you were in middle school back then (or even younger). I don't know if kids really got the full "impact" of what happened that day. I am not saying all kids didn't, but some. I can tell you that my youngest nephew (now 10 - he was five then) took it a lot more too heart than his older brother did (now 14 - he was 9 then). I don't know if my older nephew just held it all in, but the younger one really spoke about it, and was concerned for all of the kids that lost parents (even asked my sister if all the kids could come live with them so they would have someone to love them).

Everyone handles things differently. I think the decision might have been made by the school not to make a "big deal" about it for the mental stability (overexageration) of the students. It is a rather traumatic event. I cry when I watch about it, even five years later.

Maybe approaching your principal about your feelings. Let him/her know how you feel, and your thoughts on things. Maybe even giving some ideas on how your school could honor the memory of all that lost their lives that day - or even do something for the men and women that are in Iraq fighting for this country.

It is up to everyone to find the way they wish to honor the memory of 9/11. Every year, I donate to our local fire depts and police depts charities. That is my way. I can't give much, but it is to keep the memory alive, and make sure that no one died in vain. A lot of brave men and women died that day, and they deserve to have their memory honored and kept alive by the ones that are here to tell about it.

I don't know, my friends school didn't even acknowledge 9/11, I was crying all day today. I don't know how they can forget that. Millions of our ppl died that day, and ppl are still dying over in Iraq. I don't know if it's my military backround, but i feel very strongly about this and i don't understand how ppl could forget that today was 9/11. and that they should remember what happened to our country today, because it changed out lives forever.

The September eleventh assaults are not "well-known tragedies".9-11 handed off for the rationalization that of al-Qaeda taking on aircrafts and suicide bombing the planes into the twin Towers and Pentagon. harmless persons have been killed on the airplane, interior the structures, and those surrounding. the twin Towers collapsed as a results of this. Firemen risked their lives, no longer know-how if there have been bombs or extra aircrafts on their attitude. for the era of their service, many firemen and policemen died on the interest to help and shelter voters. i'm now no longer saying that it rather is a tragedy that those people who've been murdered died. it rather is extremely undesirable, and that i've got faith sorry for those kin. in spite of the fact that think of, 3000 people died on faster or later; that makes up close to a million/5 of the those persons killed between 2001 and 2009. basically, thousands of hundreds of people have been killed that day for the rationalization that al-Qaeda had to particular "their freedom". this is unacceptable for yet another us of a to act. This nowhere compares to a guy murdering a character provided that he isn't any longer "precise in the top". In end, i've got faith the deaths at Sept. 11 are an prolonged far extra huge provided that it replaced into as quickly as prompted with the help of one extra us of a as a results of its undesirable individuals of the kin with the U. S.. around 3000 harmless souls died that day with the aid of actuality of this. they have a appropriate to be enjoyed and function sympathy for.

I think it doesn't matter what they do, you should wear something showing your support anyway if that is how you feel. Maybe they are too young to care, you said high school? how old when it happened? Some people don't grasp it, especially if their parents are far left liberals these days with politics clouding any part of 9/11.

I don't get where you think that people are dying today because of 9/11. Invading Iraq would have been like us invading Thailand after Pearl Harbor. I think a lot of people are sick of having the media try to manipulate them. The jerks lost me when they showed the people jumping off of the towers to their deaths. Insensitive.

Because like Katrina and every disaster natural or not people don't care unless it happened to them. That's raw honesty, and people don't want to admit it.
