mostly the countries which have a midditranean climate like spain,portugal, italy, south africa, argintina, tasmanian island of australia and california in usa,you will found that this cool and dry climate are suitable for plant like not lemons only but its also suitable for grape, oranges and dates..

Mostly from the U.S. and Mexico. In Europe, Spain and Italy are major producers.
Hyde & AJ are very correct about Italy. I've seen a travelogue on Italy and that point was made very clear. Lemon trees are sometimes grown on seaside terraces.

this type of question has no value or is of any importance It is asking who first recorded "Lemon Cheesecake" That has nothing to do with the whole concept of cheesecake from many millenniums ago. . lemon it is simply flavoring - - what about Key lime or even chocolate etc. . .
