Fragile - Sting

I had loved this beautiful, haunting song for years (it was released in 1987). After the attacks, I was unable to listen to music. Living and working in the metro NY area, having looked at the towers every day, I felt too bereft - and while music is an important part of my life, it seemed meaningless at the time. Then Sting performed Fragile at the benefit, and it was THE song that felt right for the circumstances, and the tears just flowed. I played it over and over for the longest time after, because everything else seemed like drivel.

If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
How fragile we are how fragile we are

Lee Greenwood "God Bless The USA"

and

Celine Dion "God Bless America"

You couldn't turn around without hearing both of those. They bring up all the emotions I went through at that time.
