This is the third millenium according to our calender only. Many other people around the world do not follow the dictates of our calender and have much older models.

We just passed the last millenium 6 years ago, its every thousand years, it was the year 2000

A millennium by definition is a period of 1000 years. The year 2000 marked the end of the 20 century and the 2nd millennium if you began counting at year 1AD (2000 years ago). However, this year (2006) marks the end of the millennium that began with 1007AD (1000 years ago). I hope that this answers your question.
