Being a friend, is willing to do things with each other...or exchange watching others kids periodically..(if you have kids), go out to eat, watching movies, doing things together at home watching TV, talking to each other, playing board games if you like to, or cards, listening to music you may have in common... there are different variations of friendship, depends on how close you want to be with someone. There are acquaintances, friends in passing, good friends, very close friends you trust with anything you say, it's trust, honesty, dependability...being a friend is treating others how you would like to be treated.

I'd ask. People all have different definitions. However, when it's a close friend... you just know. :)
