If you are going for a humorous effect, you could get the audience used to the idea by hiding in the curtains (if there are any) and peer out from behind them before coming all the way out. Make a list of signs of nervousness and exaggerate them. You can gulp noticeably and pretend to wave to your mother in the back of the theater and say, in a voice that keeps breaking, "I'd like to thank my mom for coming today." Shift your weight back and forth. Repeat a couple of lines as if you forgot you had just said them. You could pull out a handkerchief, mop your supposedly perspiring forehead, and drop it, then pull out another one, use it again, and drop it. And then you could keep doing that after every line or two until there is a pile of handkerchiefs on the floor.

Make it the actor's internal dialogue as he or she tries to remember the lines. The more he tries to remember, the farther away from the lines he gets.

Make it a worst-case scenario monologue. The actor starts out worrying about muffing a line and losing the part, but keeps imagining worse and worse consequences. In the end, the worst-case scenario is something totally outrageous, but you can see how the actor got there.

Or make it a monologue about the actor being scared for a really unusual reason.

Go to wikpedia and look up the United Kingdom, talk about how the crusaders returned to England and were awarded parcels for defending Christiandom. This established British royalty, and many Americans have there roots here. Try googling string theory, it takes 2 minutes to explain it.

A drama monoluge about love is good. I once did one about a girl visiting her parents graves. It got really good remarks from the crowd. Try something like that.
