J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and it's prequel The Hobbit. I love him because he has an incredible imagination and despite all the details in his books I never get bored.
Richard Paul Evans The Locket Trilogy (actually I loved the first 2 but wasn't that crazy about the third) He writes romance that it based on true love, not lust. He always has realistic characters and scenerios and there is always a message about the importance of having good character.

My favorite author is Nicolas Sparks. I just got done reading The Wedding and it was wonderful! I have never been into a book so much. Now I am reading Message in a Bottle. But, his books really are wonderful. Another one that I read recently is Anita Shreve, Light in the Snow. Fantastic you will really enjoy her also.

I love and truly recommend:
gabriel garcia marquez: 100 years of solitude, and love in the
time of the colera.
Chuck Palaniuk: fight club, lullaby and Diary
Martin Amis: The information, London fields, money
Lao Tzu: the Tao, or any copillation of eastern philosophy
Salman Rushdie: the Satanic verses, shame, the moor's last sigh.
Isabel Allende: of love and shadows
Joseph Heller: Catch 22 (i want to read the 2nd part)
Robert Graves: I, claudius (all three parts) , King Jesus.
Faber: the red petal and the white
These are a few of my very favorites, I rearead them from time to time, I saw a quote once that read " choose your books, like you choose your friends" , to me truer words have never been spoken

My favourite author is Dean Koontz because he writes about good vs. evil in which good always wins, the importance of family, and he celebrates the average person. His writing is heartfelt, poetic, and often funny, and there is not a book by him that I don't like. Some favourites are:
Life Expectancy, Ticktock, One Door Away From Heaven, By the Light of the Moon, Phantoms, Hideaway, Lightning, and Odd Thomas.

Diana Wynne Jones. Try Deep Secret, Howl's Moving Castle and Fire and Hemlock. Margaret Mahy is also good. Try The Changeover, The Catalogue of the Universe and Alchemy.

Mercedes Lackey. Her books have always made me feel better when I was going through hard times. I love Magic's Pawn series and Arrows of the Queen. They're fantasy books about being different and helping others. Taking on responsibility you might not want and finding family in people who might not be related to you. That's just part of it all. I could talk about them all day.

Isaac Asimov. His science fiction wasn't the space cowboy type. I read somewhere that his novels weren't made into movies because most were long on dialog and short on action. The Foundation series is my favorite. It began as a trilogy, but more novels were add over the years. His short stories were also fantastic. I don't know if it is still in print, but Nightfall and Other Stories is one of my favorite collections of his short stories. He also wrote a series of robot stories starting with the anthology, I,Robot. The Three Laws of Robotics were his idea, and other writers have used them or similar laws in their robot stories.
