A friend called me over to check his a/c. Well over the next 3 hours I replaced a capacitor on his fan motor, Add'd over 5 lbs of R-22, and hooked up 2 10" flex ducts that were loose under the house. Being a friend and all, How much should I chatge him?

These people saying not to charge him are crazy. You don't work for free. You giving him a discount is as cool as a friend needs to be. My bill would read like this. $85 Service charge, that's just for me to show up. $90 an Hour @ 3hrs = $270, Capacitor somewhere between $8 and $30 I assume, I'll say $15, 5lbs of R-22 @ $17.50 a lb = $87.50. When u say hooked up a few ducts, I assume u had to re-strap the ducts to a plenum or a service vent. 2 Straps @ $0.50 each = $1.00.
$458.50
- 15% Friendship
$389.73
- 2 cold beers @ $5.00 each
$379.73 Is what he Owes you.
I'm sure he will like the idea that you just saved him $80 and probably a few days wait time for another repair man to come out

Just charge him for materials. A capacitor couldn't have been more that 20 dollars. 5 lbs of R22, put it at 15 dollars, and the two flex ducts $2. Charge him 45 since he is your friend. As long as you don't have too many friends...your not a saint.

$90 per hour $270.00, plus capacitor $16, plus $50 for freon. $336.00 would be for an a/c company to come out, not including a service call of $60. Since he is a friend, then you have to set the price. Are you licensed, insured and everything? If not, then you shouldn't get $90 an hour: maybe $50. $200 bucks is fair, and if he cries, next time let him call an A/C contractor. He will realize you didn't take advantage of him.

I do plumbing work and if it's for a friend with means, I give them a generous discount off my normal charges. If the friend is not well off and struggling to get by, I sometimes do it for free, or just for the parts, because a real friend will always try to pay you anyway. Let your heart and your need be your guide. A good deed always comes back to you- this friend may help you someday when you're in desperate need!!

If he is a good friend I would just charge him for the capacitor and freon. If you were a good buddy you would have fixed the leak too!!!!!

$50 minimum, or if it's a good friend, then charge him a case of beer.
