In a lot of cultures, including the western one, many people have a taboo about children using their left hand. So, many of them are restrained or deterred from using it. I have seen my grandma practically tie one of my cousin's left hand so that she wouldn't use it to eat with or pick things up. For the older people this held a negative impact, it was never explained to us, we just never were allowed to use it for the regular purposes.

left-handedness, in most respects, is an adaptation for a slight damage to the brain. But, there are some advantages to being a lefty---more attention to you in school makes you smarter. You are singled out as special or different. Lots of exceptional people are lefties, including many Presidents, and many Presidential candidates, for example. If you survey all the lefty's at your school statistically, you might find that they are mostly the top students.

My daughter is left-handed and she was and is currently always on the honor roll and in the Beta-club. I was told that most lefty's are gifted. Neither her dad or I are left-handed.

Not that many animals are left-side dominant either. It's one of those things that we don't really know why.
