It's not being said to people as an insult, so why can't people who don't celebrate Christmas just let it go? I could care less if someone said "Happy Hanukkah" to me. I guess I just don't understand why people are so bent out of shape about it. It's ment to be a nice, pleasant thing. Well, if it creates controversy someone's gonna whine about it.

To Cassandra who posted an answer earlier - the term was not created by "right-wingers" - sorry to say. It is the liberal media and others who are so concerned with making sure everyone is "warm and fuzzy" with everything everyone says. Hardly the reputation of the "right-wingers."

Anyway, everyone is so worried about being "Politically Correct" these days that they spend all of their time finding alternative phrases for everything under the sun! People need to get a life.

All of these stupid PC terms have just confused the world and made people feel even more alienated.

I have a friend that is Jewish and she says Merry Christmas to
everyone! She says Happy Hanukkah to me! What's wrong with that? I don't get offended. I appreciate the wishes even though I am not Jewish.

It is CHRISTMAS after all! Right? Give me a break. It's all ridiculous and everyone that gets offended by it can stuff it.

Out of curiosity....If you don't think it's a big deal then why not say Happy Holidays to people? At least like the people at the grocery store who you don't know? Save the Merry Christmas for your family, friends who celebrate it and people you see in santa hats.

I guess I just don't see the big deal in saying Happy Holidays to people if I don't know what they celebrate. Seems alot nicer to me to include everyone in my well wishes not JUST those who celebrate the one holiday.

Say Merry Christmas though if you want to and if it makes you feel better. Don't think you'll ruin anyones holidays with it. But don't call the other people whiners because they want to include all people and all celebrations.
:-)

The "controversy" was created by right=wingers who are always looking to divide and conquer. They were the ones getting bent out of shape, about stores saying "Happy Holidays" and such, and trying to pretend there is some problem. The whole Merry Christmas 'controversy' is a despicable sign that there is nothing team bush won't sully in their pursuit of power and money.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, HAPPY LORDS DAY, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, BLESSED BE ITS CHRISTMAS INDEED, ST NICKOLAS DAY,

as you can see say it many ways. i have lived all over the word. i have seen how many cultural celebrate the holiday. i know that Jesus wasn't really born on that day, but we honor him on that day. my family is messianic( Jewish believers that believe in Jesus Christ as the savior) so we celebrate the christian and Jewish way. at the same time i also know many wiccans. like when you look at a German Santa he looks more like father time and is actually sorta skinny. i guess there is just so many Grinch's. plus people who hate the holidays because of the money having to be spent.

now one thing. remember this too some may just be grumpy because a loved one has passed and isn't there during the holidays. also all the families that have spouses overseas in this war. a persons feeling about their situation may be one reason they don't like hearing any words of the holiday.

I agree. Thumbs up rabika97. For a time, some cashiers were instructed to say "happy holidays" to their customers instead of "Merry Christmas." But after being criticized for being overly PC, some have gone back to saying "Merry Christmas." It's amazing how many people want everyone else to change things they simply don't agree with. I really don't care what kind of greeting you give me, as long as you're nice about it. Live and let live.

It relies upon on what countries you're bearing on. In 1st international countries, the two adult men an women face equivalent hardships. adult men might face dropping their babies after divorce and are often placed down with the help of society without society determining they're doing it. on the different hand, women in 1st international countries nevertheless face themes like rape, low revenues, issues having babies at an identical time as working, no maternity circulate away, or maybe discrimination interior the place of work. nonetheless, women do have reward that adult men do no longer. In 0.33 international countries or something in between, there is not any question who has it worse.

I agree with the above answers, if one believes in Jesus' birth, then we would should Merry Christmas as loud as we can. The problem here is that some people feel offended, and in this "politically correct" govenment that we have, they have changed many things to just be winter. In my daughter's school they don't have a Christmas concert they have a winter concert, and they don't have a Christmas party, they have a winter festival. I for one think that it is ridiculous that we are taking a tradition and tweaking it.

We are told to say Happy Holidays so as not to cause offence to anyone, we deal with some very high profile companies and we would not want to lose millions of pounds by offending someone, so to be safe we say happy holidays, as it is inoffensive to everyone. I would not want to be the one to blame for my company losing a large amount of money, coz then I would lose my job.
