5 years ago, we all know the story by heart by now, so i won't bore you with the details & get straight to the point.
after the dust settled, well most of it, a new feeling swept across this nation, a sudden surge of patriotism... FALSE PATRIOTISM! 5 years ago yesterday, not many people gave a damn about this great nation, going about their daily lives taking all the freedoms that have been paid for in blood by countless young men for over 200 years, some people Even found fault with this country.
5 years ago, tomorrow, American flags were in front of ev'ry door step, on ev'ry lawn, waving on a post attached to ev'ry car window.
this was both a great, & tragic thing to see. great, because, for a short time, people KNEW that we were the best land on god's green earth! tragic because it takes destruction & a high death toll of innocents to bring upon such a feeling.
5 years since, this present time, patriotism is scarce now, possibly even more rare than it was on 9/10/01!...

... i know that much of the disgust for this country now lies in politics, & who thinks who is doing what & not doing what, & this too DISGUSTS me! but that topic is reserved for another time, another argument, what i come here today to speak about is how it saddens my heart to see that tragedy has to swell peoples hearts, when i have loved this country since before i could remember...

maybe it is because i was raised a "military brat", maybe my Nordic heritage speaks to me in the way of the belief in Valhalla, but if i could, I WOULD FIGHT, & EVEN DIE TO ENSURE THAT THIS GREAT NATION LIVES TO SEE ANOTHER DAY!GREAT NATION LIVES TO SEE ANOTHER DAY!

You, sir, are a patriot that we all need to follow. Ever since I began to understand the meaning of patriotism, I have stood close to my country, and when I moved to England, I defended it against the hatred of the English for years. Now I'm back, and I stand with you, and still I am loyal to America. There should be more people like you leading our country.

I dont know, I'm kinda busy with life, you know, job, pay bills, taxes, make time for the family, etc. Do I need to wrap a flag around my shoulders and shout in the streets to show patriotism? Or is my submission to the system created by the blood of those young men enough? I don't think we even had jobs as we know it today, 200 yrs ago. When did income tax come around? I've been a little too busy to check out if the news media is telling the truth or just chasing after ratings...people gotta get back to work now so they could pay all those great nation taxes, can't afford to replace those flags blown away by Rita. People KNOW all about this nation, they live here, don't they? Destruction still happens every year, maybe the news media just stopped focus on the flags, who else reaches out to tell people what to focus on? Yahoo answers? how many people you think you will reach with your question compared to the 6 oclock news?

You call it a False Patriotism, I believe that the citizens of the United States of America would have marched into Hell on that day to defend our country! There's a big difference in what happened in New York City on 9/11 2001 and what is happening in Iraq today! I don't think that the people who are against our soldiers fighting in Iraq are unpatriotic because they choose not to fly the American Flag as proudly as we did after 9/11. I still think you can be against a war and still be patriotic to your country and your soldiers! Everyone was proud of our country then because we weren't the aggressors, we were the ones being attacked, we united and came together to fight the evil of terrorism.Yes we are divided today but I truly believe that if we were ever attacked in the way we were then on 9/11 you would see the people of the United States together again and ready to defend our country! Am I "annoyed" and who should I be annoyed with? Because someone doesn't think like me or believe like me? Isn't that what American is all about? The right to believe and think "freely"! No sir, I only get "annoyed" when people try to stop other people from believing what they believe in, and that's exactly what's happening here!

I am more annoyed about all the finger pointing over who is at fault.

As for the outpouring of patriotism I don't think it was false. It was the American people's expression of grief, fear, anger, along with their patriotism. I'm sure everyone is still as patriotic as ever, but there so much flag waving one can do before looking a bit like an over-zealous fanatic. Our neighbors painted an American flag on their garage door. It was on there for three years, till they got a new garage door and repainted. They are just as patriotic, but don't feel the need for the Flag on their garage door. As for me Flags were totally sold out where I live, so I made a copy of a copy someone was handing out at work. I displayed it in my car's rear window until the ink faded and then made another one. Now, no more flag on my car, but I have a "Support our Troops" sticker and I love my country.

Not annoyed. the outcome was predictable but noone wanted to listen. Incle Sam was hit, and hurt(not nearly as bad as made out)and wanted some vengeance. But who? Most of those who did the deed were SAUDIS, hello? But who took the hit? the Taliban. It is the same as if someone beat your dog down. You know who helped but you can not touch them because they are the kids of your father's golf buddies. You are told who was the ring leader, but you can't find him. So you pick a cousin, not even a 1st cousin but some distant cousin by marriage to the one that beat your dog down, and you kick HIS a**. Because someone has to pay. Can't run around having everyone on the block thinking you some poo butt sissy.

5 years ago the lies, the secrets gulags, the torture if detainees were about as real as the WMD. But the only thing true about it, was there was no WMD. And all that they say was not true or did not happen, did. All while I am being told that the reason for it was that we are a nation of laws and the "evil doers" need to be brought to justice. The same justice they try to do an end around on because it says they can't hold detainees indefinately without charging them or giving them their day i a real court not some kangaroo military one. Patriotism? That is holding the so-called leaders to the standards the writers of the Constitution believed, and the spirit thereof. To allow egomanical men to hijack it for their own aim would not only be irrisponsible but an abandonment of everything this nation is suppose to be.

Well thank goodness for people like you. I live 45 miles west of ny city. I did not lose anybody close, however, I was sad for everyone else of course. I was sad on the 11th. By the time that I woke up on the 12th, I was pissed off. I do not think that this tradegy was great by any means, but people need to stop being sad ( well maybe not stop totally) and start getting mad again. I have always had Old Glory flying outside my house and is still true today and everyday. The best thing we can do is to be patriotic everyday. God bless those who lost their loved ones on that day and the troops that are protecting our butts here and abroad

I'm not annoyed, merely puzzled by your question-patriotism is always shown after any type of crisis situation- it is a normal outpouring of emotions, and the fact that we were attacked on our own soil brings all this to bear. I equate this with Pearl Harbor for instance, and I don't think everyone is falsely patriotic and I'll leave it here because I'm not an intellectual, merely an american.

Don't be so "annoyed". Americans show their appreciation for this country in other ways. Some serve in the military. Others fly flags every day. Some are civic minded and vote, volunteer for political campaigns, pay taxes without cheating and respect the laws. I could go on with more ways to give back to America, but you get the point. Patriotism exists in the country; it exists in a stronger sense on September 11th.
