Hold down both your Shift keys and type the alphabet as you do so. A lot of letters show up, but some of them don't. Here's mine:
ABDEFGHIJKLNOPQRSUW
The letters that show up is different for different keyboards. Try it!

Can someone explain why some letters show up and others do not? And why is it different for different keyboards?

ABDFGHJKLNSTY is what I got. Very intriguing question.
My guess is that it depends on how the keyboard is set up electronically, and when there's a conflict in electonic representation of a key, then that key doesn't get read. So for example if both the shift keys are pressed, it takes up a few wires to represent that. Now if the letter you're trying to type is using the same wires to be represented, there will be a confilct. Since the shift key probably takes precedence over the letters, the letter will not be read by the computer.

This is just an educated guess. I don't know what the real answer is. U deserve a thumbs up for ur question.

the computer likely thinks you are going for a command like the ctrl+alt+delete function with certain letters.
