The Blue Ridge Mtns. in North Carolina have a lot to offer. Lots of comfy Bed n Breakfast places..Look to Blowing Rock, Lake Lure, Asheville.. As far as beaches go, anything other than Myrtle Beach..its very touristy and trashy, i think..Charleston is incredible, Savannah is very nice..they both combine artsy, historical downtowns with closeby beaches..my personal favorite beach is the Outer Banks in North Carolina..lighthouses, not a lot of commercialization, plenty to do, good seafood.Hope some of this was helpful

When I lived in Atlanta, one of my favorites was Hilton Head, SC. The island has everything you need- a great weekender if you're looking for a beach fix.
