This is a very tricky issue, because a lot of people don't really know what meditation/visualization are, and they think they are very difficult to do, whereas, in reality, it is quite easy to meditate and incorporate it into everyday life.
Meditation and visualization have definately been proven to boost positive brain chemicals, reduce cortisol output, and relax the body overall. I mean, check out any article in Psychology Today (magazine).
They must be done on a regular basis (2-3 times per week), however, in order for them to work.
I have actually used meditation and visualization to overcome a few problems I have myself and have found it to work very nicely.

It is said it is done. As plant life innately seeks sunlight, so does the inner vision of the meditative individual find shape.
