20 - 40 lbs., usually, unless it's twins or something like that.

I gained 25 with my first, and only 15 with the second, but that's because I had 10 left over from the first one!

And today, I weigh more, not pregnant, than I did when I was full-term back then. Now THAT is depressing!

I have four answers for you my friend:

Pregnancy #1: Due to excessive nausea in my first trimester, I actually lost 20 pounds during my first three months! I gained all 20 plus 10 back, but I thought I was the bomb at 30 pounds total!

Pregnancy #2: Got pregnant while I was nursing...I read that was difficult for active nursing mothers, but not for me. (Don't tell anyone, but I am a poster child for Catholism!) I had my second child in the same YEAR (1997) as my first child and they were separate pregnancies! Needless to say, I never even had the chance to lose the first round of weight, so I added on another 35 pounds to the 20 I still had from #1! (55 lbs....)

Pregnancy #3: Thankfully, just when I had worked all the previous pregnancy weight off, I discovered that I was, yes, pregnant again. At this point, I thought it was hilarious so I ate to my little hearts content and gained 50 pounds and delivered an almost ten pound baby!

Pregnancy #4: My only truly normal pregnancy and weight gain: 37 pounds.

No more babies. Factory closed. Kicked out of the Catholic church now. Hah!

Serious advice: Just do what your body tells you and leave everyone else's opinion at the door...

Around 30 pounds is average. Remember that you have the weight of the baby, and the placenta, which is almost as much as the baby in the end. Plus you are carrying extra water and adding your own weight. The more active you stay, the better it is for your body, but it doesn't mean that you won't gain more weight. All bodies take what they need to in order to make a baby. Just don't fill up on ice cream and chocolate cake everyday and you should be average.

Years ago, doctors were stuck on the fact that pregnant women couldn't gain more than 20 lbs. Now, doctors say that limiting the weight a woman gain is not that beneficial for the baby. Gaining 30 - 50 lbs doesn't seem to be a problem for a normal pregnancy. If there are diabetic or other complications, then that's different.

It depends! lol! Are you asking how much we did gain, or should?!! In a normal pregnancy, in a woman of healthy weight pre-pregnancy, she should gain 25-30 pounds. An overweight woman should only gain 10-15 pounds. An underweight woman could gain 35-40.

#1 I gained 24 pounds.

#2 I gained 30 pounds.

#3 I gained 33 pounds.

#4 I gained 40 pounds.

I've heard of women gaining up to 80 pounds, which is more than the norm... I gained 30 and I believe the average is right around there. Perhaps 20-40????

I had two children. First my son who weighed 8#6oz and 22' long--I gained about 45# with him and believe it or not I carried him for 10 months!!! He was soooo over due (1979) that he had a tear on his little cheek when handed to me. I was only about two weeks from turning 20; at the time of pregnancy I probably weighed about 115!

My daughter was born 4 hrs later (1983) and was 1 week early! She was 7# even and 21" long...I only gained about 28-30# with her...guess average weight gain can be determined on the baby itself!

Happy baby--I try to tell new moms (is this your first?) that you should listen to the baby inside you...it will tell you what it/you needs.

Blessings to you!

I gave birth to 4 children and gained 20-25 lbs. I have 4 grandchildren and that was also the average weight gain their mothers had. If you remain active before and after it should come off fairly quickly. Wish I could have kept the breasts I had, minus the weight!!
