Females were allowed to vote (believe it or not) in the 1917's. Even though ladies are thought of elegant and fancy, we are still not being treated properly.
Yes, i think women are being treated poorly because many people disagreed with the bill of rights

In history, most women were not treated poorly per the standards of the day. Even though there were not many opportunities they were content to be wives and mothers and do other things that homemakers throughout the centuries have done. However, thanks to a lot of false teachings and ideas by men, women have had a bad rap in some areas. In the US women couldn't vote until the passing of the 19th amendment in 1920. Nowadays women have opportunities that they've never had before. We can be anything we want, even wives, mothers and homemakers if we want. There are still glass ceilings though, but since I've been in the workforce (a long time!), it's gotten much better!

The initial influx of respect came during WW2 and the Rosie the Riveter class. Women proved they could do any job a man could do. Problem was at the end of the war, the men expected them all to go back to their kitchens. Too late, the genie was out of the bottle. The fight continued into the 50's as more and more women kept working outside the home. In the 60's television helped with scintillating pictures of women burning their bras. Then there was the "You've come a long way, baby" commercials of the 70's. Gloria Steinham responded "Not far enough, and don't call me 'baby'!" I would have to say from an employment point of view women started getting respect as they climbed the company ladder and started shattering the glass ceiling. An example, Ann Mulcahey, CEO of Xerox Corporation.

Sure. We're still being treated poorly. We gained some ground in the 60's and 70's when liberal wasnt a dirty word. We had a congress than that passed some ciivl rights bills and women also gained through this. However, we have been put back in our place since the "hippie" movement died and Republicans took over again. Unless women learn to unite and not nitpick each other to death, we're going to be set back even farther.

first off, women's rights didn't get going until Susan B Anthony started the sufferage movement in the twenties?????? you might have to look that one up. second: women and men also earn different salaries according to career choice. a female doctor is going to make a lot more than a male teacher, and studies indicate that nowadays colleges are recruiting MORE WOMEN while men are going to trade schools after high school. I also defy you to find a company that ISN'T affirmative action which means men are down the line behind women.especially white men. more women are making the CHOICE to stay home and raise kids. it's not sexism or abuse, we live in a society where women can literally do what they want to do. it's all really relative but the fact is now the system works for women. and if you really think women don't get respect you need to spend some time in divorce court. peace!

The only way women will ever admit they are getting the respect they deserve will be after they have successfully killed the last man.

Women always did get respect. That is, the women who deserved it got it. Women who don't get respect today probably don't deserve it. The average female in the US becomes sexually active at age 16, and has 11 lovers before marriage. Yet, she assumes if there is justice, she should be respected???????????

There are books and books, even new ones, written on this topic, and even feminist researchers have admitted women historically had much higher social status then they assumed.

How women were treated was very much a private affair.
I am sure some poor women were treated like queens and some rich women were treated poorly.

John Adams and Abigail Adams treated each other, and communicated in very modern ways.
We owe them a great deal.

Women got more public notice in the 20th century.
Prohibition was to protect women and household finances from drunk husbands and it transformed this country. Its not often described that way, but it was monumental.

some women still do not get the respect that they deserve, yet some are respected more than men.

I know that I am going to get some thumbs down for this, but some women do not deserve respect. If you have an "in your face" attitude, i do not respect you (whether you are male or female) simply because this behavior does not respect me, and that makes me not respect you.

one previous post said that you have to show respect to get it, and that is 100% true. I will respect you until you disrespect me, then it is over.

Women were never poorly treated in the west. That''s a myth. Women in Europe and America have been able to aquire wealth and power and own property. Don't believe feminist propaganda and revisionist history.

The man-hater might note that women have been given Affirmative Action preferences for 35 years.

START getting respect??? Women are STILL being treated poorly, it just isn't "legal" due to the anti-discrimination laws. Some days I don't think that women will ever truely get real respect.
