Children are like a sponge for information, even if they act like they know it all. Make a weekly trip to the library. On a family night after dinner, let them take time ot tell of what a certain book was about. What did they learn from it? Did it make them sad or disappointed in a character? Even a toddler can point out red, or green, or circle.
Have special snacks and drinks for this family time, even if it is only popcorn and koolaide. Maybe have them read about someplace they will go later in the month, like the zoo. After the trip, have them write about it.
Get their minds and bodies active, and unplug the TV.

Children in their own home will have a lot of activities to do but if you are saying you are caring for children in your home then you will need to supply them with books, games, penicils, paper, toys, some dvd's to watch... It all depends on their ages.
