A while ago I was rollerblading down a hill. I kind of tripped and fell down on my left knee and skinned it bad. From then on I can't bend my knee or get up on my knee without it hurting really bad. What could the problem be? Did I just screw it up?

This happened about three years ago and I've been to the doctors but they said nothing was wrong with it. Now I have a new doctor so I think I'll ask him sometime when I have off of school, but what are your opinions?

You've probably torn something. I did something similar years ago, and me knee has been screwed up ever since because I didn't know enough to realize that my doctor, who said don't worry about it, was wrong. Like you, I couldn't kneel or bend my knee past a 90 degree angle without lightning bolts going up my leg. Turns out I tore muscles on the inside of the knee, which put the rest of my knee out of balance. Even though the muscles later healed, the whole knee healed up out of balance & I didn't realize. After a few years and fruitless docotor's appointments, I finally went to see a physiotherapist. She told me the muscles on the inside of my knee where just strings because the muscles on the outside had overdeveloped, thereby putting the knee permantly out of whack. BUT she started me on excercises meant to strengthen the inner muscles, and it worked! OK, it's not perfect, but my knee is MUCH better than it used to be, and I don't worry about it anymore.

My advice is to go see a physiotherapist & get their opinion. No they aren't doctors, but they spend they're days helping people sort out muscular/skeletal issues in ways a doctor just couldn't. I mean go ahead, what have you got to lose? Even if they can't help you, they'll likely have some good suggestions. Good luck!

I've suffered a snowboarding knee injury...my knee turned straight black and it was hard to move. Turned out I had bruised the underside of the knee-cap and it swelled so much that it numbed the nerve down there...sounds like your nerve is fine, since you can feel pain. The problem with the knee is the swelling under the cap has no-where to really go. you might want to get it checked just in case you damaged the bursa ( fluid-filled sac) that is a cushion for the knee. You may have just bruised it like I did, but it is always nice to know for sure.

You probably tore a ligament or did some other damage in there. See an orthopedic doctor.
