I think it is ok to have the opposite sex as a friend if your married, but if this person is an ex then their can be problems because there might be suppressed feeling either person might not be aware of and that can be a problem for all involved! however if the two people are just friends then they can be a help and comfort for each other or should I say a sounding board for each other!

of course its ok, i have been with my husband for four years and we've been married for just over two years if i had to stop been friends with the opposite sex i'd have no friends left! in my core of close friends there are two woman and eight blokes, most of my work colleagues are men as well. i'm one of those woman who just get on much better with men and my husband understands that. i admit that as a woman i do like the attention i get from men other than my husband but that is as far as it goes. it IS possible to have a purely platonic relationship with the opposite sex. As people who've already answered have said i think it all boils down to a question of trust my husband trusts me beyond reason, if you need to ask a question like this i think you need to look at your relationship (if you are in one i'm just assuming) and address the problem because -not to get too slushy- a relationship without trust is not worth the hassle

It is ok for you to have friends of the opposite sex, but if the friend you're choosing has previously been in love with you and wanted to marry you - well that could put a dent in your spouses groove.
First of all, you need to put your spouse first. If having this friend will lead to hurt feelings, constant jealousy, hysterical accusations, misery, or general unhappiness then you need to consider who you value more.
Your spouse, or this friend from the past?

I may be young but I dont see the problem, all my friends are male coz I dont really get on with my own gender that well. My parents have friends who are the opposite sex to them, my boyfriends parents are still really good mates with their ex husband and wife! (my boyfriends the result of a second marriage) I think you can be friends with whoever you want to be, regardless of sex, colour, age and creed, its personality that counts, nothing else.

Yes there should not be any probs but i can see why you might worry if they have proposed marriage and they have been turned down but you should trust your partner and if you do not then you should ask yourself why you don't and maybe see a marriage guidance counsellor to discuss your worries

Totally depends on the friend and your definition of the friendship.
For example .. if your wife is friends with a gay guy .. you dont worry but maybe you should if he is a ***** and runs you down
If she is friends with a lech who spends every moment staring at her boobs .. you do .. but maybe you shouldnt because although he is a 'boob' man he loves his wife and kids and would never do anything to hurt them ...
its all down to judgement, trust and the individual relationship .. there are no right answers with issues like this.

Yes, my best friend is a bloke called Neil, although his wife and I are friends, Neil and I chat every day and meet up a couple of times a week, and my husband doesn't mind at all.
Just friends, nothing sexual or anything, but we have the same sense of humour and interests.

Definitely. Friendship doesn't end with marriage. Sounds like you are talking about a trust issue though. That needs to be addressed first.

Only if getting divorced is in your plan for the future... be real...spouses never approve.... and generally for good reason. When we have problems we generally run to our friends for understanding... what woman wants her man running off for a hug from his female friend? And what man wants his wife doing that with another man... It's doomed I tell you... so don't even think it's possible.

i think it's ok...some of my best friends are male. you just have to have that trust. don't make a friend w/ a guy and not tell your husband, and vice versa. if you're confident about your friendship w/ a person of the opposite sex don't be afraid to tell your spouse about him or her, introduce them to one another. also, if that friend also has a spouse or significant other, that's a prime opportunity to build a couples friendship.
