I live in a 3 story house and my computer is down here in the basement and I have a friend who is moving in with me and what i wanna know is how do i connect her computer to my dsl line downstairs.... do I have to get another dsl line or how do i go about it because she is on the top floor and im down here in the basement......because we were goin to split the cost of my dsl....

it is just a plain dsl modem that connects to my computer useing a usb connection

Does your box have WIFI? We only have the one DSL box and we have two computer...we use a wireless router.

The easiest solution would be to purchase a hardware router. A good one should cost between $40 and $80. Basically the DSL modem will connect to the router's WAN port and share the connection with its 4 to 8 LAN ports.

Also, if you get a wireless router, and make your friend get a wireless network adapter for his computer, that will save you the trouble stringing cat5 cable all over the house. Just be sure to enable the router's WEP or WPA encryptoin if you go this route, otherwise your neighbors will be able to freeload off your connection.

Using Remote Connect and Sharing the Internet Account you can use a single DSL line to connect both comps to internet.

But first you must connect these two systems using an Ethernet Card and Ethernet Cable and then the internet connection must be shares...

You need a cable/DSL router, probably with Wireless. Given that you are 2 floors away or so, I'd suggest a wireless-N model as they are supposed to have better range. Otherwise, you might need to get a booster antenna.

connect with wired/wifi router.

I have several systems wired with ethernet, plus a few wifi here on my cable modem...

wireless router and wireless card.....i have verizon and they sent me both to get ours connected
