It's too complicated to explain via typing. Maybe if you sit down with your friends (or look it up on wikipedia as others have suggested), you can get the hang of it. I also find that watching games helps. Also having a dad that is a high school football coach, or an uncle who coaches for a professional football team always is a plus.

Well Heres Simple Rules:

Touchdown is 6 points
If ur team picks to field goal after getting the touchdown its only 1 points, but they can go for a 2 point converson that will be tougher but more points...

A field goal that u didnt score a touchdown before is 3 points

Thats a few simple stuff.... Also a Safety is 2 points

It's easier to understand if you watch a game with someone who is knowledgable of the sport. Make sure they understand that you are trying to learn about the game, so they don't kick you out for asking so many questions. Have them explain the basics as the game goes on.

The rules for football are different according to if it is NFL or College. Now if you are just playing backyard football that is also different because they tend to just make up some rules of their own. I will try to help you if I can. Please state exactly which problem you have or which specific rule you need to know.
