You're not asking for a hysterectomy, so you have a good possibility the doctor will say o.k.

I don't know if it's a good idea at your age. Some people really ever only want 2 and they want to be done. Me personally, I wouldn't want to be resigned to a life of condom use with my husband, I don't want to insert something everytime we want to have sex, I don't want to have to get shots every few weeks and I certainly don't want to risk cancer with the pill.

If you're determined to get it, then discuss these reasons with your doctor. Tell him the risks of many b/c pills are too high for you and the other things just don't fit into your lifestyle. Be informed when you go to talk to him/her so that you come across as well-read on the subject.

I was 39 when I had my 2nd child and I told them the moment I got pregnant that I wanted a TL. They asked me at EVERY SINGLE APPOINTMENT, and I kept wondering WHY they thought I'd change my mind - apparently they thought the pregnancy hormones might be messing with me - as I was going in for an emergency c/s, they were STILL asking me if I was sure. Trust me, after the two pregnancies and one miscarriage I'd had - I was SURE lol!

Good luck. Be assertive, speak calmly and truthfully.

ADDED: And to "Sally Beans," perhaps someone should ask her if she's ever heard of tact and kindness. I see nothing in this post that indicates that you're not capable of caring for your children or that you're anything other than a mother who wants this second child.

When I was 20, I had my second son. I asked my doctor about a tubal ligation, and she said she wouln't do it because I was too young. At that time I didn't forsee myself getting married, or wanting more children. She said that after I turned 25, then I could consider it. I'm 28 now, pregnant with my 3rd child and engaged. I'm glad that I waited. After this one, I'll have my tubal. Only because of health reasons, and the fact that I don't want to be on Medicare or a member of AARP when my kid is graduating high school.

I say get an IUD, they last for 5 -10 years and then you can make a decision on whether you want a tubal or not. Good luck.

That is a big decision and you could find a doctor who would do it. I personnel think that’s pretty young to get a tubal unless they are doing it for some medical reason. Being only 21 what if in 7 years heck even 13 years you decide you want to have another baby.(Of course you could always adopt) Now you can have a reversal but again its costly, its surgery which has a small risk of death and its not always guaranteed.

It might sound nice now. But this is a permanent thing. Maybe just try a form of birth control that lasts for a while and is low maintainance like the IUD or something. What if something happens and down the road you do want more kids. My step-dad got a permanent fix, then down the road they regretted it because then him and mom couldn't have kids together. What if you have another boy? Will you keep trying for a girl?

Your doctor will give you trouble!!!!!!!
I am 25 yrs old and I have 3 boys. My doctor really fought me!!! I finally said, "Unless your gonna pay for my 4th child from birth to college you NEED to tie my tubes!" So she finally did.
Here's the thing. I don't have a girl and I kinda regret that I don't have one. BUT....I don't want anymore kids.
Bottom line....really think about it and if you decide you really do want it then you may have to fight your doctor. Nobody can make this decision for you. You and your partner should come to a decision together.
Good Luck and Congrats!
BTW...yes it is reversible, BUT it's like $10,000. So in my case it's not reversible!

just depends alot of doctors do not like to do it. I live in Utah and my best friend finally got one. She has three kids and lost a kidney before they would tie her up. She is now 21. but if you are totally sure that you never want to have a baby again, then that's better than having abortions.

Depends on what state you are in. I believe in Illinois you can not have the procedure done until you are either 25 or married and both you and your husband sign off on it. Are you married? What if you decide later you want another child? I think the best thing for you would be abstinence or birth control.

It will be really hard to find a doctor that will do that. You are still very young. You can tell the doctor that this is what you want and demand that he does it.
