Eye contact and self confidence. If you actually made a move and said "Hi", it would probably make his day.

Talk about what's going on...observation. "You know this pudding looks like they saved it from LAST school year, don't you hate the school food?" Perhaps complimenting a shirt and why you think it looks good. Liken it to a rock singer if possible...unless you wear uniforms...then comparing him to Angus Young would be somewhat of an insult, because isn't he mad or something? At any rate, keep it simple and keep it easy. He probably likes you just as much and will be nervous too!

"Hey! What's up? How y'all doin? How's your day so far?" Talk about stuff like that. Also your hobbies and friends and family. Talk about what's up.

drop your pencil (or something else). If he gets it say thanks and start a conversation. If not, ask him if he can get it for you and then start talking. This worked for me
