Do you mean the windows registry?
I found the following answer. I hope it helps
Q:
What's the Windows "Registry?"
A:
Basically, the registry is used to store system and program settings. For example, let's say a program gives you the option of setting its font. You select a font on its font selection screen and hit OK. When you hit the OK button, *most* software will make an entry into the registry. Next time you run the program, it retrieves the information you set, in this case the font style.
Yeah, that's a bit of an over-simplification, but you get the gist of it.

The computer is just a very big set of on/off switches. You can watch everything you did yesterday if you flip the switches in exactly the same sequence as you did yesterday. The registry is the place where the sequence of switching is stored.
If you want something to be done differently tomorrow, that is where you go and flip some switches, and from now on, that is the sequence that the computer will follow (eg. the font size on your screen).

The registry is the "spine" of the windows operating system. It contains settings for all applications installed including the windows operating system.
Beware of the registry when manually editing it as it is the spine of your operating system, and you might end up with a quadaplegic operating system that cannot move from the boot prompt..

The registry is used to store information about an application such as windows and other programs. It tells the computer what information to load when the application runs.
