I know a guy who had the same problem. He secretly took dance lessons & after only a little while, he not only had the confidence to dance in public...but he was in hot demand with the ladies. I don't know if it would work for you, but he swears by it & now he'll even tell people to take lessons. He says it helped his confidence, coordination, and it taught him to dance & he's since found a wonderful girlfriend & they are taking ball-room dance together.

I'm not sure what to tell you if you've only got less than a week, but maybe you could find someone to hang out with and maybe even take a gal that isn't too good at dancing either. Then, if you liked her, you might ask if she'd be interested in taking lessons with you. It's just a thought. Good luck!

My friends and I always had the same situation, so we decided to get all dressed up, do what you usually do for a dance, go for an hour, and then plan a little party at someones house, watch movies, anything that you like to do. So this way, you can go to the dance, and still have fun later that night, and the whole night wasn't a waste of time. Good Luck!

Try to either bring a date or a group of friends to just hang with so you won't be lonely.
DANCE!!! Don't stand in the background get out there and shake those tail feathers.
If you don't know how to dance don't be shy ask a friend who's the life of the party to teach you how to dance.
Come to the dance in style that way even if you do stand in the background again you'll be looking good while doing it.
Well PLEASE try to have a good time!!!

One good thing would be to bring a date. Then you will have someone to dance with. If you go stag, then try not to look so nervous. Just relax and have fun. I'm sure most people there don't dance so hot either but they're there to just have fun! Try not to look around so much when you dance. If you're looking at people waching you then you'll mess up!

My sons took care of the dancing problem by purchasing "Dance, Dance Revolution" for their PS2. All of their friends come over and "practice" their dancing before any event. They all have a great time and lose the feeling that everyone is watching them! Plus it is great exercise!
