the directions say to find the equation of the line that contains the given point and has the given slope.

one problem gives the following information:
Point: (0,5), m=2
y=2x + 5

i don't get what equation i'm supposed to find when it already gives an equation with the slope and whatever i don't even know what to do or where to begin. I don't understand what they want me to do with that information

y=mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. You have both right there - the slope is 2 and the y-intercept (0,5) is 5, therefore,

y = 2x+5

If you need this as a linear equation, then it's 2x-y=-5

y = mx + b

The 2 is your slope (m) so that is right.

You have to plug in ONE of the (0,5) numbers. 0 is x and 5 is y.

I'll pick x (for no reason).

y = 2(0) + 5

y = 0 + 5

y = 5

So, that equation is right. Maybe you can check your book and read the chapter, and then you'll figure out what exactly you are suppose to do. Maybe you have to graph the line or find points that would work for the equation.

Oh shoot..Long time ago...
Let me think...
Ah..Perhaps you are suppose to graph the equation using the Y=MX+B Equation whereas 2 would be the slope of the line and 5 would be the Y-intercept...Hopefully you know how to graph using slope?

i have the same homwork!!
do u go to cape fear high??
i haven't started it yet!
but lets see if i can help u out here!

y=2x+5
the slope is 2 so this might be kinda hard to do on here

2/1= y-5
x-0

then u cross multiply

2x=y-5
the y and x are supposed to be together and the x is not supposed to be negative or a fraction
so move to y over
and
2x-y=-5
thats the answer

2x-y=-5
