Whats the easiest and cheapest way to take my VCR movies and turn them into MPEG files for ext. hard drive ?

buy a TV to pc converter, it's about $15 - $60
You can find it at Fry's electronic or ebay.com
I dont know if it's at bestbuy

Get a USB video capture device from K-World. $40 USD. You can burn directly from the tape to the DVD without saving to the hard drive, or you can save them for later editing.
