What happened to religious freedom, and freedom to pursue happiness? If anything, it should be expanded to allow women to have multiple husbands too! I heard that the Utah polygamist Warren Jeffs had 30 wives, ages 13-46, and 85 children ages
1-28. It sounds wonderful. How do I join his cult? And why is he FBI's most wanted? We should all be aspiring to be like him!

Historically, many of the patriarchs of the bible had multiple wives. Socially, it has practical application because there are many widows that need help to sustain life. Being a plural wife could help them. Our puritan culture from pilgrim days made the thought of plural marriage anathema. It was considered morally reprehensible. When the Latter-day Saints began plural marriage in the 1840's, it was greeted quite unenthusiastically. The purpose was to raise a quick generation of Saints and to take care of the greater population of women. In 1890, the practice was abandoned because the country would not allow it to continue. It is a difficult practice to live due to the natural jealousies and favoritisms that can creep into the home. For now, it is best to stick to the traditional one husband, one wife rule.

I have enough problems with one wife two kids and one dog. Who would want more? And Warren Jeffs was wanted because he forced a 14 year old to marry and have sex with someone she didn't want who was more than twice her age. Most polygamists are sick pedophiles.

Well, when you get married it is followed with many different benefits by the law system and is recognized by the law. Therefore it is subject to stipulations the law may decide to place on it. There would be a problem if mutiple women were married to one man because of ownership, property, and what would belong to who. Besides, if you want to get married to mutiple women then do it. It just won't be legal or recognized by the state. Many gays get married but are not considered married lawfully.

Wow ... now I see how Warren Jeffs got to the position he's in. I had been wondering how men could even begin to think such a life was respectful of other people ... but keep talkin'. I'm getting it now.

It's actually got something to do with the way you get taxed with health and life insurance and that's the same reason for same sex marriages. I'm not going to go into detail...because when someone told me about this, I lost them after "this is why..." but basically, in the end, the government loses out on money that they could've had on regular marriages.

Well, health-wise, if you are a polygamist, you are more susceptible to catching or spreading disease, especially STDs.

And the Warren Jeffs guy was not only really creepy but a pedophile and you should probably not yearn to be like him because it makes you sound creepy too...
