Hey skaters. I'm trying to get into skateboarding and I really need a good skateboard. I'm really not good at all yet and I wanna get one that I can beat up but will still work and I need it for pretty cheap. Just tell me what type you like. I need some ideas so that I know what to look for. My friends and I go down and skateboard just for fun alot so I would appreciate it for any info you could give me. Thanx

Here's what you've got to know, go to a legit skate shop, somewhere that carries the boards, trucks, bearings and wheels separately and have someone help pick some stuff for you remembering these tips:

(1) Board sizes start at 7.5" and go to 8" anything smaller or bigger isn't worth it if you're starting out.

(2) The Board should have at least 7 plys of wood, anything less will break too easily.

(3) You DON'T get speed out of bearings, its a common myth, the speed comes from the size of wheel. Bigger wheels = more speed due to the less rotations it takes to cover an area. All wheels are measured in Millimetres.

(4) DON'T spend a ton of money on bearings, they get dirty and break easily, but at the same time don't cheap out, you should spend about $15-$20 on decent ones.

If the shop person gives you attitude GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! They are not the Gods of skateboarding....I am hahaha
Peace

times may have changed but when i was into skating my world industries took quite a beating. so did my friends consolidated (spelling?). trust me, you dont want to get the best of everything because that costs a lot and its not worth it. start off with some slower bearings until you get used to how they work etc. (like until you can control the board very well). wells dont make much of a difference. the trucks depend on what youre going to be using them for. risers are mostly pointless in my opinion. and griptape is griptape...
