My previous mistakes are 'part' of my past, which has led me to become the person I am today. I am not the sum total of all my previous mistakes, nor do your mistakes define you as a person. They are just a part of the road, we have taken, to get to this point our my lives.

We have all tried different routes, in different areas of our lives, some of those routes, we discovered, were dead ends. Therefore, we have chosen a different route or life style in our quest to grow into becoming happy productive mature individuals.

This question reminds me of the Rascal Flatts song "Bless The Broken Road" (which lead straigth to you) (see video link below.)

It may also behoove you to listen to Rasca Flatts song "I'm Moving On" it described the out come when one's partner can't get past the past of the other. You may not listen to country music but words to these songs will speak volumes to you.

Why would someone ask a new partner for forgiveness of something done before that new partner was in the picture?

I can understand asking for acceptance but not forgivness as nothing was done to the new partner it all happened before they were there...

If you are asking a new partner for forgiveness you are asking the wrong person as they can not forgive your past actions they can only accept them as part of your past...

I am a woman with a man who has a slutty past. I have had a little trouble tying get over it. I know what he did and why, but it still comes to my mind once in a while. I know it was before he knew me and that is the only thing that lets me accept what he has done in the past.

I think that people do too much of "sharing" their pasts. My Husband knows that he wasn't the first, I know he sowed his oats, and the details have never been shared. The only people I know whose partner has a problem are the ones that mention it or talk about ex's .

Who says you have to tell your partner about everything from your past?? The past belongs there, in the past. It has nothing to do with the person you are currently with.

Sounds like he has a lot of growing up to do if he said mean things about you just because you used to have some extra weight. However if you want to try things with him, then talk to him, tell him you want to give things a shot.

Who says you have to tell your partner all about it. It's ok if you share some of it but why do you need to share all of it?
