Before you start mouthing think about this. You can die for your country while carrying an m-16 ,your responsible for your own debts and contracts. So why are you not old enough to have a beer ?

I've been around since the 18 yr. old drinking laws...I don't see a big diff. between now & then BUT I do believe the plan was to lower the drinking & driving accidents. I don't think it's been really effective.
Anyway, it's totally stupid for a person to finish up a day of work & not be able to crack open a beer legally.
Seriously, while we are on the topic...I'm generally very conservative BUT I think MOST of the anti-drug laws are to keep agencies that fight the "drug war" in $$$$....but that is a whole other topic.

Yeah I think you should be able to drink when your 18. I feel the same way you do about the subject. When your 18 your considered an adult, you can vote, have credit cards, and your held responsible for your own actions. I think when your 18 your old enough to decide if you want to drink.

I think that drinking at the age od 18 is fine because you are legal adult, so why not.

People who are older then 18 yrs of age drink and there is alot of accidents like, drunk driving, starting fights etc.. So what is the big deal if an 18 old drinks. Yes, it young at lease it's not a minor...

Yes, it should be 18. If you can get married and go off to war and die for your country, you should also be able to have a glass of champagne. 18 should be the age for everything: getting a driver's license, drinking, marriage, military service, and the decrease in insurance premiums. It is hypocritical for 18 to be the age where one is a legal adult, but that legal adult can't even choose to have an alcoholic beverage!

The drinking age in my state used to be 18, then they raised it to 19 here, but it was 18 in the next state, and there were lots of 18 year olds driving there to drink then driving home drunk.......Whatever the age is, it should be the same across all states to prevent that.

I agree it should be 18. I suppose it is the "father-knows-best" mentality of the government.

The age was primarily raised due to the Federal Government attaching financial strings to funds given to state Departments of Transportation. If a state raised the age, it would get more money from the feds. Thus, states raised the age limit to get more money.

It is illegal everywhere to sell alcohol to minors, but many states have exceptions for private use in the presence of adults or for religious reasons.

Because while 18 year olds can be trained to do a lot of things, they cannot be trained to drink responsibly or get a designated driver.

well if we are talking about the USA, then yes... based upon the laws that 18 yr olds can vote, be independent financially, etc, they can buy smokes, and "adult" things... They can join up and die for their country, like you said, so I say yes! why not?

note: to anti-drinking people, people who drink are going to drink anyway... leave them alone.

In most of the world if you are tall enough to put your money on the bar, you are old enough to have a drink.

And of course teens who live near the Mexican or Canadian borders have no trouble partying.
