Babies become very familiar with the smell and feel of their mother. Some babies are happy to be held by anyone (unless they are hungry and want to nurse!) but others prefer to be with Mom from the beginning.

This is completely normal, and shows your baby is developing a healthy attachment to you. She will eventually outgrow this and get used to spending time with her daddy. My kids all went through this at various ages, but now they are very secure and happy children who love their Daddy, grandparents, etc.

If your child refuses to be held by a friend or relative, try a slow desensitization process. First, work on having her be comfortable in your arms while the other person is around. Then, have the person talk and play with your child while you hold her. Then, hand him over to the other person for a short time and stay close. Finally, try to leave the room for a few minutes, and see how it goes. If your child bawls, try again. Go in and out of the room and eventually, your child will be secure in the knowledge that even though you're not around at the moment, you'll always return shortly.
Good luck!

I don't think it's a case of her being too young , more that maybe when she's crying your giving into her too easily? When a child cries it's normally a sign that they need something, feeding, nappy change, teething, being poorly, all those kinds of things. Also when you put them down to sleep it's difficult to know when and how long to leave them crying for. I think it's all perseverance really, you just have to say no more and your baby will get use to the routine, otherwise your going to have real issues. If someone else holds her and she's crying, don't take her just let her cry a little and let your friend talk to her, I'm sure it will stop

My 10 month old daughter hates being held by my partners brother, every time she cries and shakes she even turns her head when he tries to kiss her good night. I think it stems from when he very first held her and also me not liking him much. Someone told me your child can sense when the parent is not comfortable with the other adult, this may not be true but it explains a lot in my case.

Don't be fooled, they are very smart even at this young age! She knows you are her mum and it's natural for her to want you. You should try leaving her with someone else even if she is crying, she's not in pain or anything but she has to learn that she can't have you all the time.

My daughter was like that and it is very demanding on you, but I gave her to my mum for periods at a time and she gradually became happier and more content on her own.

She will grow out of it.
