it is like a clock with a low battery, it is normally an hour behind sometimes, and also the date was a day behind a few days ago.

Could have a weak CMOS battery.

Yep you need a new CMOS battery. On the motherboard it looks like and is a watch battery. Pretty easy to change and find a battery for it.
It is rare for the battery to go out, but it happens.

If you change the battery out and still does the time changing or the clock slows down then your motherboard is going bad.

You need a new bios battery on the motherboard.
The battery keeps the clock going and the settings saved of what is in your PC; passwords etc. As it gets low (around 3-5 years) your clock fails. I've just had to change my notebook battery for this reason and in many numerous old PCs.

The battery just clips in unless very, very old board in which case is a kind of awkward chip. Modern PCs are a cheap battery standard replacement.

In the meantime get this free program.
Very easy to set your time and date quick :)

I suggest you search your motherboard with ' BIOS and battery' on ebay and see if anything comes up.

Maybe is your battery needs replaced. All PC's have a battery in them for the clock and most of them last the life time of the PC but maybe yours needs changed? Check it out and see if it helps.

Is your time zone correctly set up in the windows 'Date and Time' control panel? (double click on the time in the bottom right corner of the desktop).

Your computer will synchronise itself to a time server. If you have the wrong timezone, then every time it synchronises, your time will be reset to the wrong one!

May sure you have GMT set and also automatic adjustment for DST (British Summer Time).

When you turn it on it should get the time online from a time server, and when the PC is on don't need batteries.
Be sure to set your time zone correct.
