I'm going to give a talk about what a leader is and how one can be a good leader to grade 7 students (12-14 years old). This talk is only about one hour and I really need help. I need a talk that will interest them (something that's not boring) and that'll really change them. So far I've got a few points...

>a good leader is an industrious servant
>a good leader influences others for the better
>a good leader is fair and just

a good leader doesn't just tell others what to do...s/he helps get things done.

a good leader is compassionate and understands the needs of others.

a good leader demonstrates courage and is not afraid to speak up, even when it is not a popular opinion.

a good leader shares the credit instead of taking all the recognition for one's self.

OK, this will interest an adult, not 12-14 year old kids.
They want to hear about leaders that do exciting jobs, where they help people, rescue people, go to far away places and handle danger bravely. Tell them about office jobs, hospital jobs, unless it is the emergency room (again, danger!), they fall asleep.

Be sure to walk around a lot. Jesture a lot. Visual is what these kids need, not words. And props work great, if you have them.

Good luck!!

Pick some one who you think is a good leader and then talk about them. It is easier to do this because you are feeling what you are saying and the students will get the passion you are conveying.

I agree with all of the above. .

have you googled "leadership traits"?. . or anything like that?

have you asked yourself the why of leadership? why would anyone want to lead?. . and why would anyone want to follow?

maybe you could dissect the leadership qualities of some great leaders of the past and present. . Kennedy, Churchill, Wilberforce, etc. . .
