we have no textbook in this class. And the handout we were given is over a totally different subject.

Your question might have done better under biology or ecology, but I will give you what I can. You also might want to consider whether you are limited to fresh or salt water environments for your question.

Scrapers or grazers are one group, and an example would be a snail.

Filterers are another. Examples would be clams or mussels.

Predators feed on other invertebrates. Some snails (gastropods) are predators.

Omnivores, or generalist feeders feed on both dead and living matter. Examples are crayfish and shrimp.

Shredders feed on plants and some dead animal material. An example is a stonefly (plecoptera).

Peircers feed by peircing the bodies of other organisms (hemiptera).

Not everyone groups them into six feeding groups. Some use four groups only. See:
