Look at your company policy first.
2nd - on absenteeism, Time off and sick days are counted. Beyond those being used, pay should get docked.
Tardiness- more than a few minutes on a regular basis is cause for reprimand.
Key thing is pattern of behavior. If its once in a while, seldom, that's one thing. If it occurs on a regular basis thats a different story.
First, have a discussion that this is becoming worrisome.
If continues or worse, written reprimand
If continues, action plan with potential for dismissal if behavior does not improve.

every company has different rules. you should check with the human resource department of the company, if it is a small company you should ask your direct supervisor or the owner. if it is a private company there are no laws unless the absences and tardies are tied to a medical condition and you provide a doctors note. if that is the case you may need to apply for fmla. hope this helps.

If your not there your absent. If you late, even for 5 minutes, you are tardy. Tardy also applies to breaks and lunch returns.
I had a job that use to deduct money from your paycheck if you were more that 10 minutes late - even from lunch.

5 minutes is usually the key. I try and limit myself to calling off once every 90 days as well. I try and give them as much notice as possible.
