When you wash them put you laundry detergent in and buy a product (from any grocery store or Walmart etc..) called OxyClean Stain fighter and odor remover it's a liquid and it's by the color-safe bleach. I use it on my husbands work clothes (he's a mechanic and his clothes come home smelling like grease) and it works great. Also, thier is Tide with Febreze in it and I heard that works well too. Goodluck!

The fabric itself is what's smelly. A lot of fabric like acetate which always stinks. Any clothing with acetate will smell and no amount of washing will help it. If possible take the clothing and soak it in Downy with lavender, it should help.

Wash them with your favorite laundry soap, NOT the cheap brands like Sun or Xtra. Use Tide, Cheer, Gain or Woolite, either liquid or powder, whichever you prefer. This should get the unwanted odor out. It sounds as if it's new clothes smell, which can be on any new clothing item.

Fabreze really works, but I would suggest putting the pants in a plastic bag and spraying and then washing afterwards.

the smell is probably a moth repellant used by most stores to protect their clothing . maybe if you had them dry cleaned and mention the smell to the dry cleaners , it might help
