The oceans are heated by the sun. The winds and ocean currents move the energy. Also, cold water from Antarctica cools the waters and makes relatively cool areas in the ocean.

it's all about the Sun. Sun heat the earth on the daylight side and wind and current move that heat to cooler areas. that's WAY oversimplified but that's the general idea
