I often wonder why women wear revealing clothing, things etc. The standard answer is that it makes them feel more sexy or that they do it to make other women jealous. I'd like to hear more opinions because I don't quite get how showing vast amounts of cleavage makes a woman feel sexy, but the same woman becomes self conscious when they get ogled at.

It's hard to explain...It is definitely a "female" thing, one that you will never understand as a man.

Obviously, "some" are trying too hard to get attention from people in general while others are just overconfident and feel they must show the whole world what they've got.

My mother has always taught me to be discreet with my clothing but let me tell u one thing: Where I live (Hawaii) girls and women over here wear very little clothing (tank tops, bathing suits and shorts) NOT because everyone is trying to show off for each other. It's simply because it's so damn hot and humid here. You would especially see these types by the beach where I live. I myself would throw on my bathing suit after work and head to the beach to go surfing. I guess I could say it's the "norm" here and the men here have become so desensitized to the way women dress that they don't even bat an eye when they see a woman walking down the side walk in her bathing suit...lol.

Personally, I prefer to dress comfortably, vice dressing up in tight, revealing clothing. I like my jeans and tank tops and summer dresses without the cleavage showing.

its all about attention.. even negative attention is attention.. most women want attention, and some are willing to do anything to get it.. its one thing to show alittle cleavage, its another to wear a complete outfit that shows ur rear end and wearing a barely there shirt.. ESPECIALLY when u are someone that has no business wearing something so small.. u can dress sexy with out being trashy.... and unfortunately some women dont know the difference between trashy and sexy.. and some think the trashier the better because again.. It gets attention..

As far as the oggling.. well im one of those women, but it doesnt matter what im wearing.. i have a very low self esteem, and im very self concious about the way i look, and i dont handle compliments very well nor can i handle when someone "stares" at me, it goes from being a compliment, to wondering whats wrong with me.. so perhaps those women are deep down insecure.. and although they want attention, it also scares them at the same time because they have a poor outlook on themselves..

It's different for all women. I wear what I'm comfortable in, if some cleavage shows, get over it. Women have breasts, men are the ones with the staring problem. Why should we be inhibited from what we want to wear to "control" men from looking at us or not? You are big boys, control yourselves and don't ogle if you see some cleavage. Think about how you are just fine going without a shirt and we certainly won't even talk about "plumber's cleavage" now will we?

Because they have no self respect. It's a sad society today, when even women think there is nothing wrong with it.

They have destroyed their femininity and thus respect from others and especially those men who ogle.

I don't ogle and I am saddened to see it. I am a man and I am married. I was called a homo in my teens and early twenties because I would not make cat calls or make lude comments to females who dressed like whores but I didn't care what other guys called me because I didn't have to prove my masculinity like they did, but that is what it is in today's society.

It's lack of self respect, the answer is no self respect. If you look at it in it's logic this is the proper answer.

And I don't beleive they are trying to be sluts or whores, but that is the perception of those men (actually, boys no "Man" would act like that) who show their lack of moral integrity. I do feel sorry for those women who dress this way, because they don't know that they have no self respect. They will argue if you got it flaunt it and that is just sad. So, they shouldn't be offended when some men act in this way.

I thank my father for the example he demonstrated with my mother and in public. He is a "Man", not a boy like those who would make such comments.

revealing clothing is for women who are confused about what sexy and slutty is. a bikini that looks nice on a sun tanned body is sexy. Not a bikini top in the club in NOVEMBER!! That is slutty. a low cut shirt, and fitted shirt, and a lil black dress is all that is required for revealing clothing, cause sexy undies is enough if u wanna be half naked. But being half naked all the time is DUMB! Women that wear half nothing all the time just need the attention to distract people from the ugly person they are inside.

HOLLA!!

Probably for the reasons you reckoned and more. Maybe they are simply proud of their body... it's like showing off artwork that you created. If they've worked to sculpt their body just the way they want it, they're gunna show it off. It's true, some women base their entire sense of self-worth on how "sexy" they are, how much attention they can attract, how desirable they appear. It'd be an attention thing in that instance... more attention = more personal validation. Some do it to "catch a man". Some do it just for the fun of it.

I dress "modestly sexy".
I don't like men who treat women like a poster, and I wouldn't want to attract a man like that. They might be insecure about who they are, and are trying to make up for it.
I think other women do this because they feel like they have something to prove to men and other women. But when do they get stared at they get pissed, that is hypocrisy!
I wish women would learn that the men they pick up that way are dogs and don't have respect for the inner beauty......
A women's body should be sacred for the man she is with, and if she doesn't have one, then it might be because she dresses to get called HOT and not BEAUTIFUL!
I'm not saying dress like a nun ladies- just use discretion and dress sexy but not sleazy.

I think they do it to get a man's attention. But I do know that many will show a lot of cleavage or other things with tight clothing and get angry when a man looks.

Go figure!
