In a sequence, every term after the second term is twice the sum of the two following terms. The seventh term of the sequence is 8, and the ninth term is 24. What is the first term of the sequence?

Not positive but I think the sequence works as follows:

5.5, -4, 3, -2, 2, 0, 4, 8, 24

The way I did this was took the last number and divided it by 2, (twice the part of your question) which gave me twelve. Then I subtracted 8 from it to get the 4 (sum of part of your question). Then I continued from there. 8 divided by 2 is 4, 4-4=0. 4 divided by 2 is 2, 2-0 is 2, It got tricky when I dealt with the zero because you can't divide a 0, so I just subtracted the 2 from the 0 to get the negative 2.

I think the answer is .125 or 1/8

You know, just my opinion, but you should try to actually do your homework yourself. It'll help you out in the long run, for when you have to solve even more complex problems. CheerS!

Unfortunately, I graduated a year ago and haven't yet gone back to university, so I forgot practically everything to do with math. Sorry!
