I can remember that day very clearly. I was in Kuwait on an Operation Intrinsic Action rotation. It was almost 5 pm over there and I went to the phone center to call home. A sign posted on the worn wooden door said that it was closed due to vandelism. Me, being selfish, thought some other Soldier went crazy from something he found out back home and broke some stuff. So I went back to my tent and as I about to go on guard duty, our company commander held a formation. He told us of what had happened, only very very vague.
We knew that planes had hit the trade center and a lot of people had been killed. At that time, we didn't know that it was a terrorist attack. As I sat in a guard tower that night, in the middle of the desert in complete darkness, I could only imagine what had happened. My immediate grief was to all of the families and friends of those who were no longer with us.
As our guard shift ended, we were again briefed. A room filled with Soldiers normally loud and open, was nothing more than a whisper of radio silence. To this day, I remember the words our commander said to break the silence once more, they were "We are at war." Knowing we were already in Kuwait, we were the most forward deployed military unit. Shock, awe, and fear struck some, as anger and excitement ravaged through the minds of others. We were at war, what we have trained for all of our careers.
As more and more information ran through the system and down to us, I was in the retaliation state of mind, especially after I had seen the video of the planes crashing. What will we, the United States, do now. I never found out that day, rather in days to come. As I lay my head down that night, in the cold, dark, and silent Kuwaiti desert, I prayed. I prayed to the ones who were lost, and prayed for what was to come, we were at war.

I was getting ready for college. It was my senior year. I missed my first class because I watching the news. I couldn't really fathom what was happening. I had two big tests planned that day but when I arrived at the campus, I was immediately told to return to my car and go home and that the campus was closed. There were loud speakers and sirens telling us to leave and police conducting traffic for us to get out. I live in California and not until I arrived to school did I realize how serious it was and that we could all be potential targets.

I was in my chemistry classroom at my desk, I'd been there a minute when someone I'd known since grade school walked in and said that the trade center towers had been hit by terrorists. The teacher turned on the tv and had it on the whole period and so did other teachers who had tvs, and my behind the wheel teacher had on one of the local am stations to listen to instead of one of the music stations.

on my way to school in 6th grade, it didn't seem like a big deal until later. I didnt' realize how big the twin towers were and everything on the news kind of desensitzes you from feeling anything. I wasn't scared until someone in my class started crying that their dad was in NY. I was scared for his dad, those people in there, and I was happy that my family was all at home and that my dad no longer worked in the Pentagon

I was vacationing at home. I knew nothing of the attacks. I never turn on my TV during the daytime - nothing to watch. On that day, before noon, I turned on the TV in my family room to check the weather as I wanted to go swimming that day. Then I saw the news reports. Ghastly!

I was getting ready to go to a new college for fall semester with my friend Katie, since we were slated to go back the next day. I was at Shaker Hts. Ohio and heard it on the news-TV and radio. Classes were cancelled at my area, when Katie and I talked about it that night at TGIF's for dessert.
