What can a person do if he know my SSN .

That depends. Some SSNs have become so notorious, being used by illegal aliens for employment, that the IRS computer has been overwhelmed (flagging the owner with millions of dollars in undeclared earnings) and the SSA has had to make a rare exception and cancel the number and issue a new one.

The SSN is insufficient for identity fraud, but often the thief can get more information and then apply for credit in your name. For that, the thief has to know your name and date of birth and enough personal info (or access to an information broker or credit report buyer) to get your credit data.

A person can do alot of damage with your credit. It is Identity Theft. I would report it to the police department, and they should give you a piece of paper that you can call and report it to the credit reporting. The credit report company Trans Union and two others will put on your credit report that there is a fraude report. So that when you or any one apply for credit they have to call you to confirm that you had tried to apply for credit. I personally had my wallet stolen and my SS# was in my wallet. Which you should never carry it with you. Then the credit company sent me my credit report and they had the Fraud thing on it. I also check my credit report regularly. Hope every thing is ok.
