Pay the money to have the pets profesionally treated, have your home bug bombed (you can do that yourself when you take the animals to be treated). While the animals are being treated, go get your car cleaned (if you transport them in your vehicle, they will be in that too). Also look into getting somthing for your yard. It might be expensive to do all this, but well worth it to keep your sanity (and health)

There are bombs you can set off but read directions very carefully -- that will kill the fleas, however, it won't kill the eggs. I am pretty sure you need a professional for that. The Advantage will help the pets but it has to be done every month and sometimes longer if the weather is warm. Do not think that because you treat the pets your problems are over -- you must get the eggs that have been/will be in your carpet and couch. Best advice -- ask your vet! Good luck.

There is a VERY SAFE way to get rid of fleas on your couch and in your home. Borax will cause the fleas to dehydrate and die within one day and will also kill the eggs. The easiest way to get Borax is in a box of 20 Mule Team Borax natural laundry booster. For about the cost of one flea bomb you can safely treat your whole house for a year.
LIGHTLY sprinkle the borax onto the carpet. As you sprinkle it you should not even be able to see it on the carpet. Do not try to over-do it (you won't need to). Use about 1 lb of borax for each 1000 sq ft of carpet. In less than one day you will not see anymore fleas in your house. If you apply as noted there will be no need to vacuum the Borax up. You can simply leave it and vacuum it up with your regular vacuuming. The carpet will stay treated for about 6 months!
Go try this right now and give me the best answer prize tomorrow!

You can use the bomb, get the Advantage, and then you have to bomb again in 2 weeks, because that's when the eggs hatch. You will need to wash all fabrics in your house in hat water (like curtains, rugs, bedspreads). If they can't be washed they make a spray you can use on those items. My cat only got fleas once, when he went outside. That's why he's an indoor cat only now. You don't want to go through this twice!

Sprinkle baking soda all over your carpet and let it sit overnite or a couple of days, then vacuum it up. My veternarian told me about this trick. That will kill the fleas in your rug. You have to treat your dogs and cats, too, or you'll never get rid of them in your house. You could have your yard sprayed for fleas, too, which will prevent your dog from bringing them into your house.

My dogs HAD fleas!
Try giving your animals BREWERS YEAST tablets. One tab per 10 lbs. of animal weight. My German Shepard is 100 lbs. so he get 10 per day.
The cats get two each.
It works well.
The theory beyond Brewers Yeast (with garlic) is that they fleas don't like the taste when they suck the blood, or they don't like the odor. Anyway, it's a good deterrent. Doesn't kill them, but deters them from setting up shop.
Find it at Petsmart, etc.

A professional exterminator is your only hope. They will treat several times because the flea eggs hatch out several times after tratment. Been there done this.

the flea bombs mentioned in the other answers will also kill all the eggs that fleas have laid in your couch etc as well as keeping your pets flea free it takes a week or two for the flea bombs to work but they are quite successful in controlling fleas ,spiders and any other bugs that might invade your house .
