Do you think it is an honest effort by those who think we should memorialize this day for eternity, or is an underhanded objective just to get another paid day off from work?

I'm not sure that it should be a national holiday, per se, but it should definitely be remembered. I think making it a holiday would be a terrible reminder to those who have lost loved ones. Im not sure what everyone else thinks, but I personnaly would rather not be a person who lost a loved one's passing or hear a co-worked go "Oooh yeah, 9/11 is coming up! 3 day weekend!"

I think that historically in this country, we honor those that defended or died for our freedom by going about our days. I am all for a day off to memorialize - but to me, a holiday is something that people use to go on vacation or get together for a barbecue or something - 9-11 should not be used for this. If we had a "holiday" for every American tragedy, that would be inappropriate. I believe we should honor those who died so tragically today EVERYDAY by supporting this country and the war on terrorism.

If they make 9/11 a National Holiday, then they Should either Do the Same for, or Combine it with a day of Remembrance for Perl Harbor.

If our government were to do this then it should also memorialize Dec., 7th, 1942 (Pearl Harbor attacked), The day the USS Maine was attacked in 1898. The day Washington DC was burned down during the Civil War...

The thought is honorable, but really it's unrealistic...

I think they already have Patriot's Day for 9/11 like today. It does sound like a grand idea. But they be honored in another way, like a memorial and moments of silence, like they did televised for today.

holidays are usually days of celebration and while i wouldnt mind a day off i dont think 9/11 is a day to BBQ in the backyard like we do on on memorial, labor and independance day.

It's a good idea. I also think that we should have a Pearl Harbor remembrance day. These are the only two incidence in which thousands died because of a foreign attack on our soil.

I don't think it has to be a holiday, just a day that we all remember on a personal level.

I don't think so. We will probably have a dirty bomb go off in the next few years, or an attack greater than 9/11. It isn't a deep enough precedent.
